Henry Ong to reclaim Leyte 2nd district congressional post
Former Congressman Henry Ong filed his certificate of candidacy on October 5 for Congressman of 2nd District of Leyte at the Office of the Provincial Election Supervisor in Tacloban City. He filed through a representative.
Ong is running on a platform focused on poverty alleviation and good governance.
Henry Ong in 2016 made history when he ended the reign of then House Deputy Speaker Sergio Apostol whose family ruled the second congressional district since 1992.
Ong served as Congressman from 2016 to 2019 and was Chairman of the House Committee on Banks and Financial Intermediaries. Among his many bills that were signed into laws were:
RA 10927 (Upgrades to the ANTI-MONEY LAUDERING ACT)
RA 10929 (FREE PUBLIC WIFI)
RA 11057 (PERSONAL PROPERTY SECURITY ACT)
RA11211 (THE NEW CENTRAL BANK ACT)
The second legislative district of Leyte is composed of 14 towns namely, Barugo, Burauen, Capoocan, Carigara, Dagami, Dulag, Jaro, Julita, LaPaz, MacArthur, Mayorga, Pastrana, Tabontabon, and Tunga. Rep. Henry Cañega Ong
