DOH reports 2,371 COVID-19 cases

The Department of Health (DOH) said Thursday new cases climbed to 2,371 out of which 955 were reported in the National Capital Region.

These cases are said to be highest since February.

One person died from COVID-19, the DOH said.

But infectious disease expert Edsel Salvana said even if cases were triple in the from the Omicron variant, the number of deaths did not come near that of the Delta variant.

“Even though the cases were tripled during the Omicron (wave), the number of deaths was nowhere near that of Delta. So, on that basis alone, we can say that the worst is really over for the pandemic,” said Salvaña at the ”Laging Handa” forum.

He said this is due to a large number of Filipinos having received their vaccines vs COVID-19. DMS

INTERVIEW WITH PRESS SECRETARY TRIXIE CRUZ-ANGELES – PTV 4

July 14, 2022 (12:45 P.M. – 12:48 P.M.)

SEC. CRUZ-ANGELES: Magandang araw. Dalawa po ang ating bagong—well, in relation to appointments: Si Dr. Rosario Vergeire has been designated OIC ng Department of Health.

He is credited with having been the only administrator to have made that agency profitable. Prior to his stint as LRTA, member siya ng board ng Intercontinental Broadcasting Corporation, and currently isa siyang negosyante engaged in real estate at mayroon siyang rehabilitation facility.

In the meantime, ikinalulungkot namin i-report na this morning, si Mr. Mario Castro, isang Administrative Aide na naka-assign sa Information Communications Technology Office under the Deputy Executive Secretary for Finance and Accounting ay namatay. He died from an apparent fall from the fourth floor of Mabini Hall which is located inside Malacañang Compound.

We express our profound sorrow and condolences for the family of Mr. Mario Castro.

MELA LESMORAS: Opo.

SEC. CRUZ-ANGELES: Tinitingnan natin, of course, dahil it happened inside the Malacañang Compound at isa siyang empleyado, titingnan natin iyong kaniyang ano … iyong possibility na, of course, kahit paano ay mayroon tayong maitulong doon sa kaniyang pamilya; may naiwan siyang pamilya. So, we will do whatever we can to help the family.

MELA LESMORAS: Okay. May other announcement or message to the public pa po ba tayo, Secretary Trixie?

SEC. CRUZ-ANGELES: Hindi naman po, okay na po ito, just that continuing ang imbestigasyon dito.

MELA LESMORAS: Opo.
