UPDATE ”Neneng” becomes a typhoon: Pagasa

Severe Tropical Storm ”Neneng” is now a typhoon after it underwent ”extreme rapid intensification”, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysica and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

In its 2 pm bulletin, ”Neneng” became a typhoon at 11 am, said Pagasa. ”Neneng”, which had winds of 100 km/h and gusts of up to 125 km/h as of 11 am, is packing winds of up to 120 km/h and gusts of up to 150 km/h.

”Further intensification is likely as this tropical cyclone moves over the West Philippine Sea,” said Pagasa.

Pagasa said moderate to heavy rains may prevail over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Apayao, Abra, Benguet, Ilocos Norte, and Ilocos Sur.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal Number Three is up over the western portion of Babuyan Islands (Panuitan Island, Calayan Island, Dalupiri Island).

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal Number Two is raised over Batanes, the northwestern portion of Cagayan (Santa Praxedes, Claveria, Sanchez-Mira, Pamplona, Abulug, Ballesteros), the northwestern portion of Apayao (Calanasan, Luna, Santa Marcela), and Ilocos Norte.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal Number One is over Kalinga, Abra, the northern and central portions of Ilocos Sur (Gregorio del Pilar, Magsingal, San Esteban, Banayoyo, Burgos, City of Candon, Santa Lucia, Santiago, San Vicente, Santa Catalina, Lidlidda, Nagbukel, Sinait, San Ildefonso, Galimuyod, City of Vigan, San Emilio, Cabugao, Caoayan, San Juan, Santa, Bantay, Santo Domingo, Santa Maria, Narvacan, Salcedo, Santa Cruz), the rest of Apayao, and the rest of Cagayan.
