April inflation down to 6.6% from 7.6% in March

Inflation during April went down to 6.6 percent from 7.6 percent in March, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said Friday.

It was the second straight month that inflation fell by a percentage point. March inflation went down from 8.6 in February.

The heavily-weighted food and non-alcoholic beverages index helped pull down inflation with 7.9 percent from 9.3 percent in March.

Lower transport inflation at 2.6 percent along with the housing, water, gas, electricity and other fuels brought down the overall data with an inflation of 6.5 percent.

The sugar index, reflecting high local prices, was at 35.2 percent. DMS
