International Labour Organization (ILO) Director General Gilbert Houngbo is set to visit the Philippines for the first time since his election in March 2022.
In a statement, the ILO said Houngbo will be in the Philippines from June 25 to 28 for his first official visit to the country.
“ILO Director General Houngbo will make his first official visit in the country to promote the Global Coalition for Social Justice, which aims to address growing inequalities and persistent poverty, as well as ensure decent work,” said the ILO.
The visit of Houngbo coincides with the 75th anniversary of the ILO membership of the Philippines.
Houngbo is set to have a meeting with President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., Labor and Employment Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma, Migrant Workers Secretary Susan Ople and other senior government officials.
He is also set to have dialogues with representatives of workers’ and employers’ organizations.
He will also meet Asian Development Bank (ADB) President Masatsugu Asakawa, heads of agencies and members of the United Nations (UN) Country Team, and UN Resident Coordinator Gustavo González.
Houngbo will also deliver the keynote address at the global seafarers’ summit Seafarer 2050, as well as at the National Employers Conference of the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP).
