A magnitude 6.4 quake rattled Sarangani Island, Davao Occidental at 7:21 pm Wednesday, with the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) saying it does not expect any damage.
Radio station dzBB reported that people fled out of a mall in General Santos City.
The quake, which occurred 66 kilometers east of Sarangani Island, had a depth of 139 kilometers making it tectonic.
Phivolcs director Teresito Bacolol told dzBB that the magnitude was raised from 6.1 to 6.4. The quake originated in the Philippine Trench.
Intensity V was reported in Sarangani, and Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental; Kiamba, and Malungon, Sarangani; City of Digos, Davao del Sur.
Intensity IV was felt in General Santos City, Koronadal, Tupi, T’Boli, Polomok, South Cotabato; Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental; Palimbang and Esperanza, Sultan Kudarat
Intensity III was recorded in City of Davao, Alamada, Banisilan, City of Kidapawan, Magpet, Makilala, M’lang, Matalam, Pigcawayan and Tulunan, Cotabato; Kalamansig, Lambayong, President Quirino, Senator Ninoy Aquino, and City of Tacurong, Sultan Kudarat; Lake Sebu, Tampakan, Santo Niño, and Surallah, South Cotabato.
Intensity II was recorded in the City of Zamboanga, Antipas, Arakan, Libungan, and President Roxas, Cotabato; Bagumbayan, Sultan Kudarat; San Fernando, and Kalilangan.
